Description. Size. Length up to 1.822 mm excluding antennae (n=3).
Colour. Whitish. Head with an anterior black spot between antennae, the ocular spot black. Antennae pigmented only on the tip of Ant 1–3, and all Ant 4. Faded colour laterally on Th II to Abd III, and a faded line of pigment, central, seen on specimens from Th III to Abd III.
Head. Eight eyes, G and H 50% of size of E and F. Antennal length 1089 μm, 2.8 times the length of the head. Ant IV with simple apical vesicle; relative length of Ant segments: 1/2/1.4/2.5. Four labral papillae with small protrusions on anterior margin ( Fig. 30F View FIGURE 30 ), External process of labial papilla E reaching the papilla tip. Labial base with Mc MEL 1 L 2, all ciliated and R lacking.
Thorax and abdomen. Ratio lengths of Abd IV/III=4.3. Tibiotarsus without differentiated chaetae, with exception of smooth terminal chaetae on legs 3, characteristic for the genus. Unguis ( Fig. 30G View FIGURE 30 ) with 4 teeth, paired at 33% from base, one longer than the other, and first unpaired tooth at 66 % from the base, the last unpaired tooth imperceptible but present; lateral teeth below the level of paired ones in basal position. Unguiculus truncate, with an anteapical internal tooth and with 2 or 3 teeth on external lamella. Tenent hair clavate, longer than unguis. Trochanteral organ with 14–24 chaetae. Manubrial plate with 7–9 chaetae and 2 pseudopores. Mucro bidentate with ante-apical one smaller or near the size of the apical one, and with mucronal basal spine barely surpassing tip of the subapical tooth ( Fig. 30H View FIGURE 30 ).
Macrochaetotaxy. Simplified Mc formula: 4,1,0,2,2/3,3/1(2),3/0,0,1/0,1 0 4,1 0 4,1 0 2,2. Head chaetotaxy ( Fig. 40A View FIGURE 40 ) An 1, An 2, An 3a2, An 3a1, An 3 and A 5 Mac. Only M 1, M 2 and M 4 present as Mc. In sutural row S 0, S 1, S 2, S 3, S 4, S 5i and S 5 present. Ps 2 and Ps 5 present. Thoracic chaetotaxy of Th II ( Fig. 40B View FIGURE 40 ) with Mc m 1, m 2 and m 2i on T1 area, on T2 area with Mc a 5, m 4 and m 4p. Th III with 5 Mc a 2 Mc p. All chaetae at the 2/3 posterior of the segment. Abdominal chaetotaxy ( Fig. 40C View FIGURE 40 ) of Abd I with the chaetae at the posterior half of the segment; a 2 Mc present on A1 area at Abd II (in one specimen a 3 present) and the sensillum on the line that unite the two bothriotricha; m 3, m 3ep and m 3e Mc present on A2 area of Abd II, all chaetae on the posterior half part of the segment. On Abd III only m 3 Mc present on A5 area; Abd IV ( Fig. 40D View FIGURE 40 ) with three unpaired Mc A 03 –A 05, Mc A 4 –A 6, A e3, A e4 and Ae 5pp, B 3, B 4 and B 6, C 1, C 2a and E 1. Sensillary formula usual for Entomobrya , the bothriotricha on Abd IV in position T 4 and T 6 (0011), both bothriotricha surrounded by a numerous group of microchaetae.
Remarks. The chaetotaxy of E. torquemensa is unique among known world Entomobrya . Abd II and III chaetotaxy is similar to that of E. rohtangensis Baijal, 1958 and E. ligata but Th II chaetotaxy is different being 0, 3 Mc in E. rohtangensis , and 3, 4 Mc of E. ligata respectively for T1 and T2 areas. There is a conspicuous group of microchaetae on Abd IV surrounding the bothriotricha. The truncate unguiculus has some similarity with E. salina sp. nov. ( Fig. 36F View FIGURE 36 ), E. loftyensis sp. nov. ( Fig 24B View FIGURE 24 ) and E. thalasicola Yosii, 1965 . Entomobrya salina sp. nov. and E. thalasicola have Abd IV polychaetose with 36 to 38 Mc respectively, while E. rohtangensis has 14 and E. torquemensa sp. nov. has 27 Mc. For E. ozeana the chaetotaxy is unknown but it has a characteristic transversal band on Abd IV and unguis with 3 internal teeth. Entomobrya ozeana Yosii, 1954 , is described and figured from only one specimen that is lost.
Etymology. The species name is referred on the type locality.
