Phyllanthus racemosus Linnaeus f. (1782: 415) View in CoL Emblica racemosa (L.f.) Sprengel (1826: 20).

Type (lectotype, designated here):— SRI LANKA. J. G. König s.n., Herb. LINN No. 1452.12 ( LINN – HS 1452–12 [digital image!]).

= Phyllanthus polyphyllus Willdenow (1805: 586) View in CoL , syn. nov.

Type (First–step lectotype):— INDIA. Klein s.n., Herb. Willdenow 17986 ( B – W17986–010 [digital image!], B – W17986–020 [digital image!]; designated by Webster [1997]). Second–step lectotype (designated here):— INDIA. Klein s.n. ( B – W17986–010 [digital image!]). Residual syntype:— INDIA. Klein s.n. ( B – W17986–020 [digital image!]) .

Note:— Webster (1997) indicated the type of Phyllanthus polyphyllus as “Type: India, Klein (Herb. Willdenow 17986, B)”. This use of the term “Type” is correctable to ‘Lectotype’ as per Article 9.9 of the Code ( McNeill et al. 2012). However, this selection involved two herbarium specimens and it cannot be ascertained which particular specimen was designated as the lectotype. Since Webster (1997) narrowed the type to the Klein’s collections housed in the Willdenow’s herbarium in Berlin ( B – W), it is construed here that this inadvertent designation constitutes the first–step of lectotypification (Art. 9.17). Now we have to follow the second–step of the lectotypification process and designate herewith a single sheet out of these two specimens as the lectotype.
