Elephantomyia (Elephantomyia) luculenta Alexander, 1928: 472 View in CoL . Type locality: Higashinoko, Taiwan ( China).
Diagnosis. Rostrum nearly half as long as body. Notum brownish yellow with a narrow median strip. Pleuron brownish yellow. Wing with pale brownish yellow spot on stigma; basal section of CuA1 at or just beyond middle of cell dm, cell a2 relatively broad. Male abdomen brownish yellow with a subterminal black ring.
Description. Male. Body length 6.0 mm, wing length 7.5 mm, rostrum length 3.0 mm.
Head (fig. 30). Brownish yellow. Hairs on head brown. Antenna length 1.2 mm. Scape brownish yellow; pedicel and flagellomeres dark brown. Flagellomeres except first flagellomere nearly equal in length; first flagellomere elongate and enlarged, nearly twice as long as second flagellomere. Rostrum dark brown with brownish black hairs.
Thorax. Generally brownish yellow. Notum brownish yellow with a narrow median stripe on mesonotum and scutum (fig. 31). Pleuron (fig. 29)brownish yellow with surface shiny. Hairs on thorax brown. Legs brownish yellow with tarsi slightly paler. Hairs on legs brownish yellow. Wing (fig. 32) yellow, pale brownish yellow spot on stigma; veins brownish yellow. Venation: Sc1 ending just before fork of Rs, Sc2 near its tip; basal section of CuA1 beyond fork of M and at or just beyond middle of cell dm; cell a2 relatively broad. Haltere length 1.2 mm, yellow with knob darker.
Abdomen (fig. 29). Tergites and sternites brownish yellow. Segment eight and posterior margin of segment seven black. Hairs on abdomen brown.
Hypopygium. Generally brownish yellow.
Female. Body length 7.2–8.5 mm, wing length 7.0– 8.5 mm, rostrum length 3.2–3.5 mm. Similar to male. But abdomen uniformly brownish yellow. Tenth tergite brownish yellow. Cercus brownish yellow. Hypogynial valve dark brownish yellow. Tip of hypogynial valve at 3/4 of cercus (fig. 33).
Specimens examined. Holotype male ( USNM), China: Taiwan, Higashinoko (2286 m), 1927. VI.27, S. Issiki. Allotype female ( USNM), same data as holotype. Other material: 1 female ( CAU), China: Guangxi, Baise, Mt. Cenwanglao (24°28'4"N 106°23'3"E, 1200 m), 2013. V.24, Yuqiang Xi (light trap).
Distribution. China (Guangxi, Taiwan).
