Etymology: In reference to the collection site from where this fungus was collected, Maolan town, China

Holotype: GZAAS 16-0114

Saprobic on dead branch. Sexual morph: Ascomata scattered or gregarious, visible on the host surface as dark, raised spots, black, immersed, clypeate, subglobose to obpyriform, coriaceous to carbonaceous, ostiolate, papillate. Clypeus 33–56 μm thick, extending outwards around the ascomata, thicker around the papilla, composed of dense, melanized cells. Papilla blunt conical or opening-like, periphyses not seen. Peridium composed of several layers of pale brown cells of textura angularis, becoming hyaline towards inner side and fusing with tissue on outer side. Hamathecium comprising long, sparse, 1–2 μm wide, hypha-like pseudoparaphyses, attached at the base and between the asci, embedded in a matrix. Asci (95–) 103–118 (–122) × 4–5.5 μm (x = 110.9 × 4.9 μm, n = 20), 8-spored, long cylindrical, short-pedicellate, apically rounded to truncate with a ring-like apparatus. Ascospores 13.5–18 × 3.5–4.5 μm (x = 16.2 × 3.9 μm, n = 30), overlapping-uniseriate, hyaline, fusiform with round ends, normally 3-septate, constricted at the septum, smooth-walled, containing several guttules when young. Asexual morph: Undetermined.

Culture characters: Ascospores geminating on WA within 24 hours. Colonies reaching 17 mm diam on PDA in 2 weeks at 25 °C, circular, dense, regular and radial at the margin, sunk at the center, white from above and pale brown to grayish from below.
