AGATHINA CRAMER, 1779 View in CoL
Pap[ilio] Dan[aus] Cand[idus] agathina Cramer, 1779: 76 , 173, pl.237, figs D, E [original plate 206, figs B, B] (junior homonym of Papilio agathina Cramer, 1777 [ Nymphalidae ]). ‘Batavia’ [error, African] (E.F.Alberti).
Papilio View in CoL Danaus View in CoL Candidus agathina, Stoll, 1782b: 5 [No. 48].
Material examined. No potential Cramer specimens located.
Current status. Currently treated as a valid species in Mylothris (e.g. Ackery et al., 1995), but is preoccupied by Cramer (1777). Unfortunately, both this species and Doxocopa agathina ( Cramer, 1777) are wellknown taxa and it is recommended that an application to ICZN should be made for the name to be conserved. The next available name is Mylothris xantholeuca Hübner, [1819] .
