Demicryptochironomus (Demicryptochironomus) antennarius sp. n. ( Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1 A–D)
Material examined: Holotype male, CHINA: Guizhou Province, Fanjing Mountain Natural Conservation, 1350 m, 29. V. 2002, B. Ji (BDN no. 20235).
Etymology: From Latin antenna, antenna, referring to the low antennal ratio.
Diagnostic characters: The new species is distinguished by the following combination of characters: low antennal ratio (AR =1.26); tergite IX and hypopygium dark brown, superior volsella represented by two small tubercles covered by microtrichia and each bearing an apical seta, gonostylus without distinct longitudinal keel, inferior volsella absent.
Coloration: Thorax yellowish, scutellum and dorsum of scutum light yellow. Abdomen yellowish green, tergite IX and hypopygium dark brown. Legs yellowish green.
Head: AR 1.26, Ultimate flagellomere 550 µm long. Frontal tubercles small, rounded, 4 µm in diameter. Temporal 9 setae, including 2 inner verticals, 4 outer verticals, and 3 postorbitals. Clypeus with 10 setae. Tentorium 138 µm long, 33 µm wide. Palpomere lengths (in µm): 48, 92, 162, 120, 200.
Thorax: Antepronotals 2, dorsocentrals 9, acrostichals 4, prealars 4. Scutellum with 10 setae.
Wing ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 A): VR 1.17, R with 16 setae, R1 with 14 setae, R4+5 with 10 setae. Brachiolum with 2 setae. Squama with 8 setae. Anal lobe well developed.
Legs: Front tibia with 2 subapical setae, 137 µm and 150 µm long; spur of middle tibia 20 µm; 35 µm long, comb with 22 teeth, 10–12 µm long; spur of hind tibia 22 µm; 35 µm long, comb with 46 teeth, 10–12 µm long. Sensilla chaetica absent. Lengths (in µm) and proportions of legs:
Hypopygium ( Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1 B–D): Anal point 88 µm long, 18 µm wide at base, 10 µm wide at apex, gradually tapered to nearly parallelsided towards apex. Basal part of anal point forming wedge on ninth tergite. Tergite IX with 14 setae, with ridges at base extending to tergite IX and with short lateral setae. Laterosternite IX with 3 setae. Anal tergite bands Vshaped. Phallapodeme 78 µm long. Transverse sternapodeme 40 µm long. Superior volsella ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 B) represented by two small tubercles, each bearing long apical seta and microtrichia. Gonocoxite 140 m long with inner margins forming blunt angle in middle. Gonostylus 162 µm long, widest at about basal 1/3, inner margin concave, without distinct longitudinal keel, and bearing 8 setae on inner margin. HR 0.86; HV 2.35.
Distribution: This species was collected by sweep netting in a subtropical mountain area in Guizhou Province (Oriental Region).
