Dashymenia conspersa Wolski & Gorczyca View in CoL sp. nov.
( Figures 7 View FIGURES 1 – 18 , 39–41 View FIGURES 36 – 41 , 56 View FIGURE 56 )
Diagnosis. Dashymenia conspersa is recognized by the following combination of characters: head yellow ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 1 – 18 ), with clypeus dirty yellowish brown; antennal segment II yellow, with numerous brown spots ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 1 – 18 ); segment IV with brown ring basally and red ring apically ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 1 – 18 ); left paramere with a sensory lobe somewhat convex ( Fig. 40 View FIGURES 36 – 41 ); DSS short, weakly sinuate, pipe-like in shape; AES nearly rectangular, embracing the DSS; MES strongly enlarged, strongly broadened and rounded apically; PES crescent-like, strongly toothed beyond its base, somewhat sharpened apically ( Fig. 39 View FIGURES 36 – 41 ).
Dashymenia conspersa appears to be most similar to Dashymenia macgillavryi in having segment IV with dark brown annulations basally and apically and corium with pale yellow patch apically. D. conspersa can, however, be easily distinguished from the latter by the antennal segment II mottled with numerous brown spots.
Description. Male. COLORATION ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 1 – 18 ). Dorsal surface dark brown with contrastingly yellow areas. Head. Yellow; clypeus dirty yellowish brown; antennae yellow with brown spots and rings; antennal segment I yellow with two brown annulations: one situated beyond base, other situated apically; antennal segment II yellow, sprinkled with numerous brown spots; segments III and IV yellow brown, segment IV with brown ring basally and red ring apically; labium yellowish brown. Thorax. Thoracic pleura. Proepimeron dark brown, remaining pleura darker, almost black. Hemelytron. Corium with contrastingly yellow patch on inner apical portion, contiguous with inner angle of cuneus. Legs. Yellowish. Abdomen. Dark brown. STRUCTURE AND VESTITURE ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 1 – 18 ). Elongate oval; dorsal surface mixed with dense erect and semierect setae. Head. Covered with long, dense, erect setae; vertex with weakly raised tubercles each contiguous with inner margin of eye and occipital carina; antennal segment I covered with sparse, semierect setae, weakly narrowed basally, remainder of segment I cylindrical; segment II with long, dense, recumbent and semirecumbent setae, almost cylindrical, weakly narrowed at base; segments III and IV thin, covered with long, semierect bristlelike setae; apex of labium reaching mesocoxae. Thorax. Pronotum. Pronotal calli weakly elevated, with punctures more sparse than those on remainder of pronotum. Scutellum. Nearly flat, covered with deep and dense punctation, more sparsely distributed basally. Legs. Covered with moderately dense setae; tarsomere II divided medially; pretarsal claw not toothed subapically.
Male genitalia. Endosoma ( Fig. 39 View FIGURES 36 – 41 ). Strongly sclerotized; DSS short, weakly sinuate, pipe-like in shape; AES nearly rectangular, embracing DSS; MES large, strongly broadened and rounded apically; PES crescent-like, strongly toothed beyond base, somewhat sharpened apically. Left paramere ( Fig. 40 View FIGURES 36 – 41 ). Apical process relatively short, obtuse; sensory lobe weakly convex. Right paramere ( Fig. 41 View FIGURES 36 – 41 ). Straight on right side, convex on left side, apical portion strongly narrowed toward apex.
Measurements. 3: body length 5.5, width 2.55; Head. Length 0.65, width 1.3, diameter of eye in dorsal view 0.34. Antenna. Length of segment I 0.5, II 1.76, III 0.58, IV 0.7. Labium. Length of segment I 0.45, II 0.53 (III and IV obscured by glue and immeasurable). Pronotum. Length 1.4, width of anterior margin 1.1, length of lateral margin 1.2, width of posterior margin 2.28.
Female. Unknown.
Etymology. The specific name is taken from the Latin “conspersus,” meaning confusedly sprinkled or besprinkled and refers to the numerous brown patches on the antennal segment II.
Distribution ( Fig. 56 View FIGURE 56 ). Malaysia (Sabah).
Type material. Holotype 3: Malaysia: Sabah: Sipitang, Mendolong, T1B/W4, 10.III.1989, leg. S. Adebratt ( NHRS).
