Type material. Holotype ( Figs 1, 3 View Figures 1–4 ): male, [ Indonesia, North Maluku Province, Maluku Islands] “ Molukken, Halmahera Mt. Talagaranu, 600m 15km SE Baru ( Primärwald [primary forest]), 22.– 31.1.1996 1’12’N – 127’32’E [1°12'N, 127°32'E], lgSinjaev & Tarasov [Sinyaev & Tarasov leg.]”, gen. prep. No.: ZSM Arct. 2021-024 (prepared by Volynkin) (MWM/ ZSM). GoogleMaps

Paratype: 1 male with the same data as in the holotype (MWM/ ZSM) .

Diagnosis. The new species ( Fig. 1 View Figures 1–4 ) is externally reminiscent of C. fumea ( Fig. 2 View Figures 1–4 ) but is recognised by the more elongate forewing and the indistinct transverse lines. Compared to C. aroa and C. charybdis (illustrated by de Vos (2017)), C. halmahera sp. n. has a pale creamy basal and medial areas of the hindwing whereas the hindwing of C. aroa and C. charybdis is monotonous brown. The male genital capsule of the new species ( Fig. 3 View Figures 1–4 ) differs from those of the similar congeners in the apically rectangular vinculum whereas it is U-shaped in C. fumea ( Fig. 4 View Figures 1–4 ), C. aroa and C. charybdis (illustrated by de Vos (2017)). Compared to C. fumea , the male genital capsule of C. halmahera sp. n. has a basally thinner uncus, a medially wider and apically narrower valva, and a longer, thinner, and more upcurved distal saccular process. The phallus of the new species differs from that of C. fumea in the flat and less serrulate dorsal surface of the distal section whereas it is swollen and covered with larger denticles in C. fumea . The vesicae of the two species are similar but in C. halmahera sp. n., the subbasal ventral diverticulum is narrower and membranous (whereas it is granulated in C. fumea ), the dorsal subbasal diverticulum bears a wider area of granulation, the row of cornuti is more or less straight (whereas it is distally curved in C. fumea ), and the distal diverticulum is membranous whereas it bears an area of granulation and a medial cluster of very short but robust cornuti in C. fumea .

Description. Adult male ( Fig. 1 View Figures 1–4 ). Forewing length 13 mm. Head and thorax dark brown. Antenna dark brown, ciliate. Forewing with postmedially convex costal margin and elongate and broad longitudinal cluster of androconial scales along costal margin medially. Forewing ground colour dark brown. Ante- and postmedial transverse lines sinuous, indistinct. Cilia dark brown. Hindwing pale creamy subbasally and medially, with areas of intense brownish-grey suffusion along costal and outer margins dilated at apex. Cilia brownish-grey. Abdomen pale brown, covered with ochreous-brown scales apically. Male genitalia ( Fig. 3 View Figures 1–4 ). Uncus long and thin, downcurved and apically pointed. Tegumen relatively short with narrow arms. Vinculum more or less equal in length to tegumen, heavilu sclerotised, with laterally convex arms, apically rectangular. Valva lobular, dilated medially and tapered distally, apically rounded. Ventral plate of costa weakly sclerotised, with short thorn-like ampulla directed ventro-inwards. Sacculus relatively narrow, with long and robust, strongly upcurved and apically pointed distal process. Juxta trapezoid with weakly sclerotised anterio-medial section. Phallus tubular, somewhat dilated proximally, with very short and apically rounded coecum, distal section with cluster of serrulation dorsally. Vesica sack-like, directed ventrad, bearing long longitudinal row of robust triangular cornuti of various sizes from base of distal to tip of ventro-distal diverticulum. Dorsal subbasal diverticulum short but broad, granulate. Ventral subbasal diverticulum semiglobular, membranous. Distal diverticulum conical and apically rounded, membranous. Ventro-distal diverticulum broadly conical and apically rounded, membranous. Distal plate of vesica short and thin but heavily sclerotised. Vesica ejaculatorius directed ventrad.

Female unknown.

Distribution. The new species is known only from the island of Halmahera, the Maluku Islands (North Maluku Province of Indonesia).

Etymology. The specific epithet is a homonym of the type locality.
