TYPE LOCALITY: “ Italia [ Italy]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 3 ♂♂, 6 ♀♀, syntypes ( MZUF: Box 57): Culex Lin. / spathipalpis Rndn. / 3027; 1 ♂, syntype ( MZUF: Box 57): Culex Lin. / spathipalpis Rndn. / 3027 / “ Metatarso basi tantum pallid ” [only the base of metatarsus pale]; 2 ♂♂, 1 ♀, syntypes ( MZUF: Box 67): Culex Lin. / spathipalpis Rndn. , ♀ / 3031.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Culiseta longiareolata (Macquart, 1838) View in CoL ( Minář 1991: 87, Harbach 2018: 122).
REMARKS: Rondani (1872a: 31) included Culex spathipalpis as a new species in a key but did not provide a detailed description, number or length of the specimens, but provided specific characters for the male. Thirteen syntypes were found in this study, ten specimens are numbered “3027”, three are numbered “3031”.
