Croton tranomarensis var. rosmarinifolius Radcl.-Sm., Gen. Croton Madag. Comoro 196. 2016. Type. Madagascar. Prov. Type.
Based on Croton tranomarensis var. rosmarinifolius Radcl.-Sm.
Habit and distribution.
Shrubs; southern Madagascar (Toliara).
Notes.
The specific epithet " Croton rosmarinifolius " is previously occupied in Croton ( Croton rosmarinifolius Salisb. (1796), which is itself an illegitimate replacement name for C. cascarilla (L.) L.), hence the new name coined here. In both this species as well as the similar C. chlaenacicomes , the leaf margins often become revolute when the plant is undergoing drought stress; that is most likely what caused the strongly inrolled margins on the type of C. tranomarensis var. rosmarinifolius .
