Herb, erect, 0.7–1.5 m high; young branches terete, white puberulous. Leaves digitately 3-foliolate. Stipules narrowly linear, 1–2 mm long, white puberulous, persistent. Petioles 4–5.8 cm long, white puberulous. Petiolules 0.8–1.5 mm long. Leaflets broadly elliptic or obovate, 1.5–8.5 × 0.5–3.5 cm, base cuneate, apex acute or attenuate, margin entire, glabrous upper, white puberulous lower; lateral veins 6–7 pairs. Inflorescences axillary or leaf-opposed, open racemes, 3.5–18.5 cm long; peduncle 2–4 cm long, white puberulous. Bracts narrowly linear, 0.8–1 mm long, caducous. Pedicels 3–5 mm long, brown pubescent. Bracteoles inserted in the middle of the pedicel, narrowly linear, 0.2–0.3 mm long, caducous. Calyx View in CoL 4–7 mm long, campanulate, bilabiate; tube 0.5–2 mm long; lobes triangular, 3.5–5 mm long, glabrous inside, white puberulous outside. Corolla View in CoL yellow. Standard: claw 1–1.5 mm long, white tomentose above and along the margin, glabrous below; blade broadly ovate, 12–13 × 8–10 mm, base obtuse or rounded, apex rounded, margin white puberulous. Wings: claw 1–1.5 mm long, glabrous; blade oblanceolate, 7.5–8 × 3–4 mm, base oblique, apex rounded, margin white puberulous. Keel: claw 1–1.2 mm long, glabrous, margin white puberulous; blade broadly ovate, 8–9 × 5–6 mm, beak spirally twisted, base oblique, apex attenuate, margin white puberulous. Stamens: filaments fused for proximal 2.5–4.5 mm, free for distal 2.5–4.5 mm; anthers either narrowly linear, 0.5–0.8 mm long or oblong, 1–1.2 mm long. Ovary sessile, oblong, 3–3.5 mm long, glabrous; style 6–6.5 mm long, adaxially white puberulous in a single line along the distal edge, abaxially glabrous. Pods sessile, oblong, 2.5–3 × 0.5–0.6 cm, brown, glabrous. Seeds reniform, 1.8–2 × 1–1.2 mm, brown-red.

Ecology: —Dry limestone in deciduous dipterocarp forests, elevation 450– 900 m.

Notes: — Crotalaria shanica is distinguished by its broadly elliptic or obovate digitately 3-foliolate leaves, narrowly linear stipules, axillary or leaf-opposed inflorescences, spirally twisted beaks, sessile ovary and glabrous pods.
