Coptocephala kuesteri Kraatz, 1872: 230 (new substitute name for Coptocephala melanocephala Küster, 1847 ).

Coptocephala melanocephala var. andalusiaca Pic, 1918c: 17 (unavailable infrasubspeciħc name).

Type localities. Coptocephala melanocephala : ‘bei Trau in Dalmatien’ [= Croatia, Trogir]. Coptocephala melanocephala var. andalusiaca : ‘Andalousie’ [patria falsa].

Type material examined. Coptocephala melanocephala : not examined.

Distribution. Croatia, Italy, Serbia, Slovenia, Switzerland ( REGALIN & MEDVEDEV 2010b).

Comments. Coptocephala melanocephala var. andalusiaca was described in a paper containing also a description of a subspecies ( PIC 1918c), thus it became infrasubspeciħc according to Article 45.6.4 of the Code ( ICZN 1999).

Coptocephala scopolina kuesteri is distributed in Italy and former Yugoslavia (e.g. WARCHA Ł OWSKI 1991, REGALIN & MEDVEDEV 2010b). We agree with the late Michel Rapilly who dissected the original male specimen of var. andalusiaca and identiħed it as C. scopolina kuesteri . As Andalusia ( Spain) is placed far from the distribution range of C. scopolina kuesteri we think that the original specimen of var. andalusiaca was mislabelled.
