Diagnosis. Commoneria costaplica sp. nov. is distinguished from other species in the genus by its distinct costal fold, vein R 1 strongly bent upwards connected with Sc near the costa, and a small patch of dense microtrichia at the anal angle in male forewing.
Description. Head ( Figs. 7–8 View FIGURES 5–8 ): Lower frons yellowish white, upper frons yellowish to light brown; vertex dark brown, iridescent in angled light; antenna brown, except basal segments dark brown; labial palpi porrect, first segment yellowish white, second segment upcurved, with margins rather parallel, yellowish, slightly darker to apex, apical segment short, yellowish.
Thorax: Pronotal collar, tegulae, and mesonotum dark brown, iridescent in angled light; without posterior crest. Forewing subrectangular, wingspan 13.2–15.8 mm in male ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1–4 ) (n = 3), 16.0 mm in female ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1–4 ) (n = 1); costal margin evenly curved; termen deeply notch below rounded apex between R 5 and M 1, followed by a moderately large subtriangular lobe at mid-termen, exceeding wing apex; male with costal fold in basal 1/3, ventral edge extending to Sc, R 1 strongly bent upward, fused with Sc near costa, extending along costa to middle of wing ( Figs. 9 View FIGURE 9 , 12 View FIGURES 11–12 ), with a rather small longitudinal patch of very dense microtrichia at anal angle ( Figs. 9–10 View FIGURE 9 View FIGURE 10 ); costal fold covered with moderately long, narrow scales, dark brown, iridescent in angled light ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 11–12 ); costal strigulae indistinct, except for a pair of distinctly large white strigulae near apex; basal 3/5 covered with dark greyish brown scales, apical 2/5 with brown ground color mixed with diffused transverse, sinuate striae, dark greyish brown, with first leaden line extending obliquely outward from middle of costa to R 3, followed by narrow dark brown extending obliquely outward from R 3 near costa to termen at M 1, beyond with the second leaden line extending obliquely outward from apical 1/4 of costa to R 4, with a row of three dark brown spots near termen between M 2 and CuA 2, most distinct at top spot; underside dark greyish brown, iridescent in angled light, with trace of a pair of white strigulae on costa near wing apex and a small white spot at deeply notch termen between R 5 and M 1, apical half of costa covered with a patch of long, narrow scales, iridescent in angled light. Hindwing brown throughout in male, slightly paler to base in female; underside light brown, slightly paler at anal area; fringe scales with inner row dark brown, outer row light brown; female with 4 spines in frenulum.
Abdomen: Pregenital abdomen in male ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 13–14 ) with sternum II bearing large anterolateral process; sternum VIII with a transverse, narrow, widely zigzag sclerotized line along anterior margin; tergum VIII with a small, transverse sclerotized ridge posteromedially, covered with short densely setose, posterolaterally with large patches of dense, inflated scales. Male genitalia ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 15–16 ) with tegumen narrow, weakly sclerotized, subtriangular tapering to rounded apex; uncus and socii absent; gnathos very weakly sclerotized band; vinculum moderately sclerotized narrowed band; juxta subtriangular; caulis rather short; phallus rather long, basal 2/3 broad, widened medially, apical 1/3 narrower, subcylindrical; valva moderately long and slender with nearly straight costa; sacculus small with a small patch of dense setae basally, ventral margin with a subtriangular lobe, rounded angle projecting ventrally, moderately dense setae, followed by a deep excavation; cucullus long, widened medially, densely setose, with a rather small subtriangular lobe ventrobasally, rounded apex pointing ventrally, without setae. Female genitalia ( Figs. 18–19 View FIGURES 18–19 ) with papillae anales broad, flat, densely setose; posterior margin of sternum VI with a sclerotized ridge, widely curved medially with protruding lobe at posterolateral corners, covered with dense scale sockets; posterior margin of sternum VII with a deeply excavation, V-shaped medially, posteromedially with ostium small and rounded near anterior margin; ductus bursae rather short, shorter than corpus bursae, posterior half much smaller than anterior half, with an incomplete narrow sclerotized ring at ostium; ductus seminalis arising at entrance of corpus bursae; bulla seminalis present; corpus bursae large ovate with two small thorn-like signa ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 18–19 ).
Distribution. Thailand (Sa Kaeo province).
Etymology. The specific epithet (costa = costal / plica = fold) refers to the costal fold on fore wing.
