ficus caricae ( Fabricius, 1794: 225) , Coccus

This combination was made by Olivier (1791: 93). Fernald (1903: 156) erroneously cited this trinomen as Coccus caricae as did Morrison & Renk (1957: 20). Olivier quoted Bernard (1773) as the author, but Bernard (1773: 89) discussed the vernacular name Kermes du figuier. Olivier’s name was credited to Fabricius by Boyer de Fonscolombe (1834: 205) and first suggested that the name Coccus ficus caricae might possibly be the same as Coccus rusci Linnaeus . Current status: Signoret (1869: 847) treated the name as a junior synonym of Ceroplastes rusci (L.).
