Distribution.
Chydaeus salvazae is distributed over northern Vietnam, southwestern China (Guizhou, Sichuan, and Yunnan provinces) and the Central Himalaya (Sikkim and Nepal) ( Kataev and Schmidt 2006). In Yunnan, the species is common in southern (Pingbian and Jinping counties) and western (Longling, Longyang, Shuangjiang, Tengchong, and Yongping counties) parts of the province ( Fig. 61 View Figures 60–61 ).
Habitat.
Specimens were collected in roadside and road cut open areas, on open, disturbed stream banks, and in other disturbed areas ( Fig. 70 View Figures 70–71 ), hidden under stones and other debris during daylight hours and active on the soil surface at night.
Remarks.
This species belongs to the monobasic salvazae group ( Kataev and Schmidt 2006). Among the species of Chydaeus occurring in Yunnan, Ito (2003: 83) listed the name of Chydaeus oblongulus but omitted his recently described species Chydaeus nigricans Ito, 2002. However, according to our data, Chydaeus oblongulus has never been described, and therefore is a nomen nudum. Ito probably was referring to Chydaeus nigricans when he listed Chydaeus oblongulus because the characters he mentioned ( Ito 2003) for Chydaeus oblongulus and his reference to his 2002 paper, in which he described Chydaeus nigricans , are consistent with this assumption. Chydaeus nigricans was treated as a junior synonym of Chydaeus salvazae by Kataev and Schmidt (2006).
