Range:— Antilles; Costa Rica to Venezuela and northwestern Argentina.
Ecology: —Locally common; terrestrial in humid forests, on roadsides, ditches, seepage areas, and along trails; (250–) 400–2350 m.
Notes:— Differs from C. patens , with which it has historically been combined (e.g., by Smith, 1971, 1992), by adaxially hairy veins and costules, and brown, shining, lanceolate, pubescent scales on the petiole bases.
