Description of Chitinibacter fontanus UHG 6

Cells are Gram-stain-negative, flagellated, and rod shaped. Colonies are circular, convex, transparent, and milky white colored after incubation for 5 days on R2 A at 28° C. In API 20NE system, positive reactions are obtained for nitrate reduction and cytochrome oxidase; but negative for indole production, glucose fermentation, arginine dihydrolase, urease, esculin hydrolysis, gelatinase, and β -galactosidase. D-Glucose, D-mannose, N -acetyl-glucosamine, and potassium gluconate are utilized as sole carbon sources; while L-arabinose, D-mannitol, D-maltose, capric acid, adipic acid, malic acid, trisodium citrate, and phenylacetic acid are not. Strain UHG6 (= NIBRBAC000509594) was isolated from a lake water sample at Paju, Gyeonggi-do, Republic of Korea .
