Cheumatopsyche nigrocephala sp. nov.

( Figs. 3–8 View FIGURES 3–8 )

Material examined. Holotype; male, India: Uttarakhand; Pothibasa, 1700 m, 15-vi-2010, Pandher & Parey ( NPC). Paratype: 1 male, collection data same as of holotype.

Diagnosis. This species is closely related to Cheumatopsyche saplaca Oláh & Johanson 2008 (in Oláh et al. 2008), reported from Vietnam. But segment X is short and quadrangular in lateral view and trilobed in dorsal view, with its apicoventral setose lobes enlarged, curving dorsad, clavate in lateral view, and triangular in dorsal view in Ch. saplaca . In Ch. nigrocephala sp. nov., segment X is truncate apically in lateral view, with its apicoventral setose lobes truncate and not curving dorsad (directed posterad) in lateral view, divergent, lateral margins slightly concave medially, pointed apicolaterally in dorsal view.

Description. Adult male; color in alcohol blackish-brown with fuscous pubescence, dorsum of head coal black. Length from tip of head to apices of folded forewings about 6 mm; maxillary palps each 1.25 mm; segment II slightly longer than III, segment V subequal to first four segments together; length of labial palp 0.50 mm; antenna about 6 mm, longer than forewing. Each forewing 5.25 mm long; venation typical for genus; forewing crossveins m-cu and cu separate; veins Sc and R, Cu and A running separately before costa. Each hind wing about 4 mm; Sc and R meeting at crossvein r before apex; fork I present; median cell closed; stems of M and Cu1 very close.

Male genitalia ( Figs. 3 – 8 View FIGURES 3–8 ). Abdominal segment IX longitudinally short; posterodorsal median keel triangular, apically pointed with two lobes; each side in lateral view anterolaterally convex, posterolateral margin with apical lobe slightly produced, triangular, setose, its setae aligned in continuity with those on posterolateral slope of keel. No depression visible between segment IX and body of segment X. Lateral setose area (preanal appendages) indicated by pair of mounds near base of segment X. Body of segment X very short, quadrate in lateral view; rounded in dorsal view; its apicoventral setal lobes pediculate, apically broad, directed posterad in lateral view, divergent and apicolaterally produced in dorsal view. Smooth mesocaudal lobe convex. Dorsal interlobular gap very wide, demarcated by diverging apicoventral setal lobes laterally. Inferior appendages each long, coxopodite (basal segment) slender, base dilated ventrolaterally in lateral view; in ventral view, broader baslolaterally and preapically, curved mesad; harpago (apical lobe) small, broad at base, curved and hooked dorsad apically in lateral view; digitate, curved mesad apically in dorsal and ventral views. Phallic apparatus simple, broad at base, narrow preapically; endotheca slender, apically complex, with two pairs of spine like structures.

Distribution. India: Uttarakhand.

Etymology. The species is name is derived from the coal black head of the male.
