Chasmatonotus Loew, 1864 View in CoL

Coquillett (1900) described Chasmatonotus univittatus from Alaska based on five adult males collected near Sitka on June 16, 1899. The habitat of the terrestrial larvae in mid-west USA (Ohio) has been described as damp spongy soil with a high humus content and containing sand ( Bolton & Jacobsen 2010). The larva has morphological characteristics similar to other terrestrial taxa such as Smittia , including a reduced number of teeth on the mentum, absence of procercus and anal setae, and reduced posterior parapods (Andersen et al. 2013).
