Diagnosis. This species differs by acrostichals divergent around the prescutellar depression, 5 pairs of dorsocentrals with interspersed shorter setae, olive-brown scutum (postpronotal lobe and lower margin of notopleuron slightly lighter) with triangular patch of blue pruinescence on prescutellar depression, fore femur apically without strong anterior setae; clasping cercus unilobed, elongated, broader basally and narrowed to apex.
Distribution. PALAEARCTIC: Europe: Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, French mainland, Germany, Hungary, Italian mainland, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland; Caucasus: Russia (Krasnodarskiy Territory), Abkhazia, Georgia.
Remarks. Joost (1981) first reported this species from the Caucasus, collected the stream Yusengi ( Russia: Kabardino-Balkaria Republic). In the Catalogue of Palaearctic Diptera ( Chvála & Wagner 1989) , this species was mistakenly indicated only from the territory of Georgia. Therefore W. (Chamaedipsia) beckeri is noted from the territories of Georgia and Abkhazia for the first time. Wiedemannia beckeri is common from mountain rivers of the Caucasus from elevations between 360–2830 m a.s.l. and is active from April to July.
