Centris errans Fox, 1899 View in CoL . 65, 66.
Type data: According to Fox (1899), the two females he used to describe this species were collected by Annie Trumbull Slosson (1838‒1926), one of the few American female entomologists in the nineteenth century. Slosson made several biological expeditions, from New Hampshire to southern Florida, often accompanied by other naturalists. She used to donate insect specimens to collectors and taxonomists, like Fox and others. Her insect collection, composed by approximately 35,000 specimens, was donated by herself to the American Museum of Natural History ( Ifkovic, 2004).
Both female specimens cited by Fox (1899) were found at ANSP, one of them with label of provenance. This specimen is here designated as the lectotype and it has the following data label ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 5 and 6 ): [light brown label] Bisc. Bay, Fla. [printed]\ Centris errans Fox [handwritten]\ [red label] Type [printed] series 2 spec [handwritten with blue ink]\ [white label] 1980 Loan to USNM from Acad. of Nat. Sciences at Philadelphia [printed]\ [light blue label] Lectotype Centris errans Fox, 1899 F. Vivallo des, 2017 [printed]. Paralectotype female with the following data label: [white label] 1980 Loan to USNM from Acad. of Nat. Sciences at Philadelphia [printed]\ [light blue label] Paralectotype Centris errans Fox, 1899 F. Vivallo des, 2017 [printed].
Type locality: United States: Florida state: Biscayne Bay .
Comment: This species was correctly interpreted by Snelling (1984) and Moure et al. (2007).
