Notes:—The name Centaurea dissecta var. maritima f. montaltensis appeared for the first time in Fiori (1907), with a short diagnostic phrase allowing its discrimination from C. dissecta f. hyalina . The locus classicus of the taxon was stated as “M. S. Angelo sul Montalto a circa 830 m ”. Fiori (1907) clarified that the epithet comes from Lacaita herbarium (“ C. Tenorii v. montalt . Lacaita hb.”). In FI, original material for this name is lacking. In BM and K suitable specimens were found, all labelled by Lacaita as “ C. tenorii f. montaltensis ”, not at varietal rank as indicated by Fiori. We prefer to choose as lectotype a specimen from BM, where the original collection by Lacaita is preserved. In particular, the well-flowered BM-001043206 ( Fig. 6 ) was collected in 1883 on Montalto at about 650 m, not “at 830 m ” as erroneously reported by Fiori (1907) (see Lacaita 1922: 177 footnote). Barring the elevation datum, the specimen is in perfect agreement with the protologue; therefore, we designate it as the lectotype of the name. This choice does not affect the current usage of the name C. montaltensis , of which C. dissecta f. montaltensis is the basionym.

The name C. dissecta var. maritima f. hyalina would correspond to “ C. ursina v. hyalina ” of Lacaita’s herbarium ( Fiori 1907), gathered together with the typical “var. maritima ” in lower places of the Amalfi Coast. Suitable material is found both in BM and FI. The specimen BM-001043213 , even if lacking the unpublished Lacaita’s name indicated by Fiori, i.e. “ C. ursina var. hyalina ”, reports in Lacaita’s handwriting “ Centaurea Ursina mihi” and also the note: “ciliae albescentes, membrana hyalina” [transl.: “cilia whitish, membrane of the involucral bracts hyaline”]. However, the specimen FI-050200 matches the protologue as well and is originated from Lacaita’s herbarium. In addition, it bears a label by Fiori with the exact combination cited in the protologue ; the date precedes the publication of the prologue and the locality, i.e. “tra Capo d’Orso e l’Avvocata di Majori (costiera d’Amalfi) \ c. 1200 pedi”, strictly recalls the locus classicus “col tipo” [transl.: “with the type”], i.e. “ Costiera di Amalfi fino a 500 m e specialmente al Capo d’Orso”. We designate FI-050200 as the lectotype of the name ( Fig. 7 ) .
