Notes. Cassia holwayana Rose (1905: 301) is a new name for Cassia multiflora M. Martens & Galeotti in Hayez (1843: 307), which was described based on the collection H. Galleotti 3145. It is an illegitimate name, however, as Vogel (1837: 39) previously described a species of Cassia with the same epithet (homonymous). Additionally, the Cassia multiflora protologue does not indicate in which herbarium the holotype was deposited. Irwin & Barneby (1982: 560), when performing the new combination, mistakenly indicated the holotype deposited at the Brussels Herbarium (BR), which Prado et al. (2015) called an inadvertent lectotypification. Therefore, we are designating the specimen deposited at BR, under barcode 000000521559 as the lectotype, as it is the most complete specimen, with leaves and flowers, and is well preserved; additionally, the main collections of Galeotti are deposited in BR ( Thiers 2021).
