Cardiomya tosaensis ( Kuroda, 1948) View in CoL — Higo, Callomon & Goto 2001: 185, fig. B1454.

Material examined: 24 specimens from the ocean and sea slopes of Kunashir , Iturup , Urup , Broutona, and Onekotan Islands (90–460 m) .

Distribution: East China Sea; Sea of Japan; Boso Peninsula (eastern Honshu) to west coast of Kyushu, Japan; Kuril Islands (28–800 m) ( Kuroda 1948; Okutani & Sakurai 1964; Scarlato 1981; Okutani 2006, 2017; Kamenev 2013).

Remarks: This is a new record from the region of the Kuril Islands. The specimens we examined are similar to the holotype of Cardiomya tosaensis ( Kuroda, 1948) ( Kuroda 1948; Higo, Callomon & Goto 2001). Scarlato (1972) described Cardiomya lindbergi batialis Scarlato, 1972 , which was found in the Sea of Japan at depths of 100–800 m ( Scarlato 1981). Сurrently, С. lindbergi batialis is accepted as C. tosaensis by Huber (2010) and Kamenev (2013). Indeed, С. lindbergi batialis is similar in shell morphology to C. tosaensis . However, given the brief description of both species, we think that further study of the species is needed to clarify the taxonomic status of С. lindbergi batialis.
