3.28. Myrcia platyphylla (O.Berg) View in CoL A.R.Lourenço & E.Lucas (in Lourenço et al. 2018: 80). Calyptranthes platyphylla O. Berg (1857 –1859: 539). Type:— BRAZIL. Unknown date, Riedel s.n. (LE [not found]).
The description presented in the protologue of Calyptranthes platyphylla includes ferruginous trichomes, large (18–25 cm long) and subsessile leaves with cordate bases, inflorescences with a remarkably long main axis (ca. 10 cm long) and flower buds ca. 1.5 mm long. Among the Brazilian species of Myrcia sect. Calyptranthes , this distinctive combination of features is found only in Myrcia carioca and these two names may be conspecific. However, analysis of the type collection of C. platyphylla is essential to proceed with the synonymization and it was not found at LE so far.
