( Figs 1D View FIGURE 1 , 12)
Type material. Holotype, male ( SEMC): “ PANAMA: Panama \ Gamboa, Old Gamboa Rd. \ 10 June 1993, C Michalski \ ex: flight intercept trap ”.
Diagnosis. Small (TL 2.4 mm), oval, identifiable only on the basis of male genitalia, especially unique shape of penis. Penis with wide basal half and narrow apical part, a condition unknown in other members of the genus. Apical plate of tergite VIII with very short median process.
Description. Male. Body oval, convex, covered with yellowish, suberect setae. Head brown with lighter frons and clypeus, pronotum and elytra dark brown, venter brown, legs and antennae yellowish. Head very broad, 1.7 times wider than width of interocular space, with distinct but fine punctation, punctures small, granulate, separated by a 2.0–3.0× diameter of a puncture, eyes moderately large, not protuberant. Pronotum transverse, widest at its base. Disc of pronotum with fine, granulate punctation, punctures separated by ca. 3.0× diameter of a puncture. Posterior margin of pronotum subtly bisinuate. Anterior angles protruding anteriorly, subtriangular, posterior angles obtuse. Scutellar shield subtriangular, covered with subtle punctation. Elytra oblong, without traces of longitudinal ridges, widest in the middle of their length, sides curved, regularly converging to apex in posterior 1/3. Humeri well marked. Punctation stronger than on pronotum, punctures elongate, distance between punctures ca. 0.7–1.0× diameter of a puncture.
Male genitalia. Penis (L 0.52 mm, W 0.11 mm, Fig. 12A) moderately long, wide in basal half and narrowed in apical portion, parameroids short, narrow, with subparallel sides, rounded at apices, trigonium subtriangular, rounded at apex. Tegmen (L 0.37 mm, W 0.19 mm, Fig. 12B) short, sides diverging, apex with short lateral lobes, covered with sparse setae. Sternite VIII (L 0.17 mm, W 0.06 mm, Fig. 12D) very small, transverse. Sternite IX (L 0.26 mm, W 0.20 mm) subtriangular, with paired apodemes, apical margin rounded, apical portion covered with sparse setae. Tergite VIII (L 0.31 mm, W 0.34 mm, Fig. 12D) with short apical plate, central portion of apical plate slightly produced, lateral portions of apical margin with numerous small denticles, apodemes distinctly longer than apical plate, diverging. Tergite IX (L 0.33 mm, W 0.24 mm, Fig. 12E) with membranous apical plate, apodemes as long as apical plate.
Female. Unknown.
Measurements and ratios. Male (n = 1) TL 2.37 mm, PL 0.50 mm, PW 1.13 mm, EL 2.03 mm, EW 1.53 mm, TL/EW 1.54, PW/PL 2.27, EL/EW 1.33, EL/PL 4.07.
Distribution. Known only from the type locality in Panama.
Etymology. Named after Panama, where the type locality of the species is located.
