Diagnostic characters. Stems clustered, climbing, 15– 20 m long and with leaf sheath 2–4 cm in diameter; fla- gella absent; spines 2–3 cm long, triangular. Knee green, ca 4 cm long, smooth to wrinkle; ocrea inconspicuous, acute, 5–6 mm long. Leaf pinnate, 3–4 m long, cirri 1–1.2 m long. Leaflets lanceolate, ensiform, serrated, acuminate, 19–30 cm long and 5–8 cm wide. Staminate inflorescences 1.2–1.5 m long; partial inflorescences 7–9 in number, ca 50 cm long; rachillae alternate 1.5–5 cm long. Pistillate inflorescence 70–80 cm long; partial in- florescences 5–6 in number, 18–30 cm long; rachillae 8–10 cm long.
Flowering. February to May.
Distribution. Cachar, Dhemaji, Kamrup Rural, and Kokrajhar districts; prefers waterlogged plains.
Uses. For preparation of furniture (cane).
