Etymology. The specific name is taken from the Tupi Indian language that means “spotted” and denotes the mottled aspect of the opisthosoma, legs and chelicerae. Unchangeable.

Diagnosis. The males of Caayguara apiaba sp. nov. resemble those of C. ajuba sp. nov. and C. juati sp. nov. by the general conformation of the palp, with the RTA with a single subdistal ventral lobe and a slender dorsal projection ( Figs 24–25 View FIGURES 24 – 28 ; 29–30, 34–35; sl, dp) and by the prolateral subdistal keel on the embolus ( Figs 24 View FIGURES 24 – 28 , 29 View FIGURES 29 – 33 , 34 View FIGURES 34 – 38 ; sk). It can be distinguished from the latter two species by the larger subdistal prolateral keel of the embolus of the palp and smaller dorsal projection of the RTA ( Fig. 34 View FIGURES 34 – 38 ; sk, dp). The females resemble those of C. juati sp. nov. by the triangular shape of the median septum of the epigynum ( Figs 26 View FIGURES 24 – 28 , 36 View FIGURES 34 – 38 ), but are distinguished from the latter by the less divergent lateral borders, forming a right angle, by the touching part of the lateral lobes slightly longer than median septum ( Fig. 36 View FIGURES 34 – 38 ) and by the large number of lobes in the posterior part of the copulatory duct ( Fig. 37 View FIGURES 34 – 38 ).

Description. Male (IBSP 54066): Dorsal shield of prosoma orange, brown along fovea, with black spots at the base of setae of thoracic striae. Eye borders black. Chelicerae orange with scattered black spots. Legs pale orange mottled with black spots. Pedipalps pale orange. Sternum cream colored with orange margins. Labium dark brown, distally cream colored. Endites orange with brown margins. Opisthosoma grayish brown, dorsally with scattered reddish brown spots. Total length 8.5. Prosoma: 3.7 long, 3.5 wide. Opisthosoma: 4.7 long, 2.6 wide. Eye diameters: 0.24, 0.20, 0.18, 0.24; interdistances: 0.12, 0.06, 0.30, 0.28, 0.14, 0.14. Leg measurements: I: 23.3 (6.0, 2.4, 6.6, 6.1, 2.2); II: 25.9 (6.8, 2.3, 7.5, 6.9, 2.4); III: 18.7 (5.1, 1.8, 4.6, 4.2, 1.5); IV: 19.2 (5.6, 1.5, 5.1, 5.3, 1.7). Spination follows the generic pattern. Palp ( Fig. 75 View FIGURES 71 – 82 ): RTA simple with no basal lobe and slightly pronounced subdistal lobe ( Fig. 35 View FIGURES 34 – 38 , sl); dorsal projection shorter than RTA ( Fig. 34 View FIGURES 34 – 38 , dp). Tegulum smooth, without projections. Embolus with distal region slightly rectangular and bifid, with large subdistal prolateral keel ( Fig. 34 View FIGURES 34 – 38 , sk) and no subdistal retrolateral projection; pars pendula inconspicuous.

Female (IBSP 54313): Coloration pattern as in male. Total length 6.8. Prosoma: 2.8 long, 2.8 wide. Opisthosoma: 4.0 long, 2.2 wide. Eye diameters: 0.18, 0.14, 0.12, 0.14; interdistances: 0.22, 0.06, 0.34, 0.26, 0.22, 0.18. Leg measurements: I: 14.3 (3.8, 1.4, 4.0, 3.9, 1.2); II: 16.8 (4.7, 1.6, 4.8, 4.3, 1.4); III: 10.9 (3.2, 1.2, 2.9, 2.7, 0.9); IV: 12.7 (3.7, 1.2, 3.3, 3.4, 1.1). Spination follows the generic pattern, except tibia IV: d0-0- 1. Epigynum: epigynal field rounded, as long as wide; median septum triangular, as long as wide ( Fig. 36 View FIGURES 34 – 38 ). Vulva: pp very long, with 12–14 linearly arranged lobes ( Fig. 37 View FIGURES 34 – 38 ); fd longitudinal, only 1/3 of pp length ( Figs 37–38 View FIGURES 34 – 38 ).

Variation. Males (n = 10): total length 6.1–9.8; prosoma 2.6–3.9; femur I 5.4–6.5. Females (n = 10): total length 6.8–12.7; prosoma 2.8–4.5; femur I 3.8–5.0.

Distribution. Southeastern Atlantic Forest, from southern Bahia to southeastern Minas Gerais ( Fig. 84 View FIGURE 84 ).
