Notes. (1) In the original description of Lithosia striata, Bremer & Grey (1852) did not mention the number and sex of specimens. In order to stabilize the nomenclature, we hereby designate one male specimen from Grey’s collection deposited in ZISP labelled as a type (marked by a golden round label) as lectotype. (2) Walker (1854) described Hypoprepia lanceolata by female(s) but did not mention the number of specimens. In order to stabilize the nomenclature, we hereby designate one female specimen deposited in OUNHM and labelled as ‘Type’ as lectotype.
Diagnosis. The forewing length is 14.0–19.0 mm in males and 14.0–22.0 mm in females. The species is significantly variable in its size, forewing shape and colouration. In the male genital capsule, the lengths of the basal and the distal saccular processes are somewhat variable. However, the vesica structure is stable and diagnostic (see the diagnoses of B. evrys sp. n. and B. robusta sp. n.). In the female genitalia, the width of the ductus bursae and the size of the corpus bursae are variable but the appendix bursae and the apophyses anteriores display stable differences from the similar congeners. The detailed comparisons with B. striata hachijoensis and B. evrys sp. n. are provided below under the diagnoses of these taxa.
Distribution. Southern Russian Far East, Japan, Korea, China (Jilin, Hebei, Shandong, Gansu, Shaanxi, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Fujian, Hubei, Hunan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Hainan, Sichuan, Yunnan) ( Inoue 1982; Dubatolov et al. 1993; Fang 2000; Park 2000; Dubatolov 2008; Kishida 2011), North Vietnam. The records from Cambodia ( Bae et al. 2016; Bayarsaikhan et al. 2018) belong to B. evrys sp. n. (see below).
