Baetis alius View in CoL group

This species group was proposed to include Baetis alius , Baetis moqui and B. pluto (Wiersema et al. 2004) , but Baetis moqui was synonymized with B. alius (McCafferty et al. 2008) . Larvae are readily distinguished from other species groups by the shape of the labial palps (Fig. 18) and by the more elongate mouthparts, including the labrum (Fig. 29). Baetis pluto is found primarily in the Appalachian Mountains (McCafferty & Randolph 1998) and possesses a dark band on the caudal filaments. Baetis alius is known from the Rocky Mountains westward (McCafferty et al. 2012) and lacks a dark band on the caudal filaments.
