Lectotype (designated here):— CHILE. Puerto Gregory , Capt. King s.n. (E00312095!).
Protologue:—“ A. caespitosa Hook. hijo. Ant. Voy., 282.-Non Cavan. […] Creemos esta especie distinta de la A. caespitosa Cavan. y la dedicamos al señor Dalton Hooker, quien la descubrió en el estrecho de Magallanes y de quien sacamos esta descripción”.
= Azorella monantha Clos (1847 View in CoL [1848]: 79).
Notes:—Clos bases the name Azorella hookeriana View in CoL on the specimens used by Hooker to describe A. caespitosa View in CoL in The Botany of the Antarctic voyage ( Hooker, 1844), which he acknowledged as different from the species from Cavanilles. From the material used by Hooker (1844, Strait of Magalhaens, Port Gregory, Capt. King; West Falkland Island, Née, Capt. Sullivan) we have only found the former (E00312095), which we designate as the lectotype.
