Atherigona punctata Karl, 1940: 147 View in CoL . Holotype male, Taihoku, Taiwan, in DEI (type seen by Pont 1986: 30).
Diagnosis. Palpi yellow; frontal vitta orange-yellow, usually dark brown on upper half; fore femur entirely yellow, sometimes with a dark ring in apical quarter; fore tibia darkened at tip; wing clear except for a dark smudge around the tip of subcostal vein; male hypopygial prominence rather tuberculate in form, this and trifoliate process as in Figs 103–109 of Pont (1986); tip of the median piece of trifoliate process characteristic, produced and rounded after the pair of strong apical setae. Female sternite 6 short, as long as broad; tergite 8 and sternite 7 as in Pont (1986: Figs 110–112). See also Pont & Magpayo (1995).

Comments. The species is here recorded from Vanuatu for the first time.
Distribution. Australia (NT, Qld), PNG ( PNG), Solomon Is, Vanuatu; Oriental Region.
