Lectotype (designated here):— BRAZIL. Mato Grosso: nas bordas das matas e cerradões perto de Coxim e Santa Luzia do Piquery , May 1911 (fl.), F. C. Hoehne 3368 ( SP No 9523 barcode SP024049 !; the image of the lectotype is available at http://plants.jstor.org/stable/viewer/10.5555/al.ap.specimen.sp024049).
Taxonomic notes:— Aristolochia malmeana was regarded as synonym of A. esperanzae Kuntze by Capellari (2002). However, Ahumada (2010) restated the specific status of the species. In the protologue ( Hoehne 1925:17) the author cited his collection series “3367–2273”. The second number (2273) is a typographical error that was corrected by Hoehne (1942b: 67) to “3367–3372”.

Holotype:— BRAZIL. São Paulo, Serra da Mantiqueira , cultivada no Jardim Botânico de São Paulo , 14 December 1942 (fl.), A. Gehrt s.n. ( SP No. 47804 barcode SP 000407!, isotype SPF No. 71774 barcode SPF 00071774!).
Taxonomic notes:— Aristolochia macrorryncha is presented here as a new heterotypic synonym of A. labiata Willdenow (1809: 101) because the characters presented by Hoehne in the protologue do not justify the separation of both into distinct taxa.

Taxonomic notes:— Aristolochia medellinensis is a heterotypic synonym of A. pilosa Kunth (see González 1990).
