Vulneraria View in CoL heterophylla var. parvula
Vulneraria heterophylla var. parvula was validly described by Lojacono-Pojero (1891: 47) with the following diagnostic features: “vexillo carneo, alis albidis carina atropurpureo maculata, calyce rubello tincto”.
Two pertinent specimens were traced at BM (barcode BM000751287) and G (barcode G00421034) and they bear both the following original Lojacono-Pojero’s annotations: “ Plantae Siculae rariores | 377. vulneraria heterophylla Moe [nch] var. parvula mihi | in pascuis calcareis maritimis subsylvaticis varietas Monte Gallo presso il malopasso | Junio 1880 | Leg. M. Lojacono ”. The only datum of the label which does not match the protologue (Lojacono-Pojero 1891) is the collection number (“ 377 ” vs. “ 376 ”). In our opinion, there is a mistake in the Lojacono-Pojero’s Flora Sicula, where the numbers of the varieties busambarensis and parvula were inadvertitely mixed up. In fact, Lojacono- Pojero (1891: 47) reported “ 377 ” under var. busambarensis (“ Pl. sic. rar. cent IV n. 377 ”), whereas “ 376 ” was indicated for var. parvula Lojacono-Pojero (1891: 47) (“ Pl. sic. rar. cent IV n. 376 ”), which was described just above var. busambarensis in Lojacono-Pojero’s Flora sicula. Anyway, BM000751287 and G00421034 are to be considered as part of the original material for the name Vulneraria heterophylla var. parvula . Both these specimens morphologically match the protologue by Lojacono-Pojero (1891: 47). Since the G specimen ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ) is better preserved, we designated it as lectotype for the name. On the basis of the current concept in Anthyllis vulneraria s.l. (see e.g., Pignatti 2018), var. parvula corresponds to A. vulneraria subsp. rubriflora ( Candolle 1825: 170) Arcangeli (1882: 178) .
