Amasa brevipennis ( Schedl, 1971) stat. res.
Xyleborus brevipennis Schedl, 1971: 378 View in CoL .
Remarks. This species was previously considered a synonym of A. schlichii ( Stebbing, 1914) by Wood (1989). Amasa brevipennis is very similar in appearance to A. striatotruncata ( Schedl, 1971) which until recently was also considered a synonym of A. schlichii ( Smith et al. 2020b) . The holotype of X. brevipennis (NHMUK) and a paralectotype of X. striatotruncatus (NHMUK) were directly compared by SMS. Amasa brevipennis can be distinguished from A. striatotruncata by the following combination of characters ( A. brevipennis given first): declivital interstriae punctate and unarmed vs. interstriae impunctate and granulate on apical half of interstriae 1; all interstriae uniformly convex vs declivital interstriae 1 feebly inflated; circumdeclivital ring smooth and unarmed vs circumdeclivital ring with weakly serrate margin on apical third.
Distribution. East Malaysia.
