Description. Holotype male. Dorsal coloration. Head shiny black to reddish brown; antennal segment I pale castaneous with basal third yellow, remainder segments dark castaneous; anterior lobe of pronotum yellowish orange; collar shiny reddish brown; posterior lobe shiny reddish brown to black with wide yellowish orange triangular mark lateral to middle line; scutellum dull black; clavus shiny reddish brown with inner margin of basal third dark yellow; corium shiny reddish brown with costal margin and basal third dark yellow; hemelytral membrane pale brown with whitish border; connexivum shiny yellow; connexival segments II–V with a group of black spinules resembling an elongate spot; dorsal abdominal segments II–VI dark orange, VII dark brown. Ventral coloration. Head shiny black to reddish brown; rostral segments, prothorax, legs and abdominal sterna III–V shiny yellow; mesothorax shiny black to reddish brown; metathorax dull black to reddish brown; abdominal sternite II shiny yellow with dark shiny castaneous brown spot near middle third; abdominal sterna VI–VII dark castaneous to dark brown at middle third; pleural margins of abdominal sterna shiny yellow; genital capsule castaneous; spinules of femora and tibiae reddish brown. Structure. Head: Antennal segment II less than twice as long as segment I; rostrum reaching anterior margin of mesosternum. Thorax. Pronotum wider than long; anterior lobe less than twice as long as posterior lobe. Hemelytron macropterous extending to the apex of last abdominal segment; veins of hemelytral membrane distinct forming two cells.

Female. Color and habitus similar to male holotype. Connexival segments VIII–IX, dorsal abdominal segments VIII–IX and genital plates brown.

Variation. 1, collar shiny reddish brown to dark castaneous. 2, hind femora shiny yellow with apical third pale to dark brown. 3, pleural margin of abdominal sterna III–VI shiny yellow with short pale brown elongate spot and behind them a small reddish brown spot.

Measurements. Male. Body length 4.35; head width across eyes 0.64; interocular distance 0.24; antennal segments: I 0.44, II 0.72, III 0.68, IV =ca. 0.80 (curled); pronotum: length of anterior pronotal lobe 0.76, length of posterior pronotal lobe 0.41,maximum width of anterior pronotal lobe 0.88, maximum width of posterior pronotal lobe 1.53; scutellum: length 0.40, width 0.49.

Measurements. Female. Body length 4.37; head width across eyes 0.65; interocular distance 0.25; antennal segments: I 0.44, II 0.68, III 0.60, IV =ca. 0.76 (curled); pronotum: length of anterior pronotal lobe 0.76, length of posterior pronotal lobe 0.44,maximum width of anterior pronotal lobe 0.84, maximum width of posterior pronotal lobe 1.44; scutellum: length 0.53, width 0.72.

Type material. HOLOTYPE male: MEXICO: CHIAPAS, Reserva El Ocote , 9-III-1993, E. Barrera & G. Ortega Leon ( UNAM) . PARATYPES: MEXICO: VERACRUZ, Atoyac , 14-IV-2000, H. Brailovsky & E. Barrera ( UNAM) 1 female ; VERACRUZ: Cordoba, Cuauthemoc , 25-III-28-IV-2007 & 17-30-VI-2007, intercepted light trap, L. Delgado ( UNAM), 2 females .

Etymology. Named for its small size; from the Latin “ vergrandis ” small.

Discussion. This species is related to A. nigrofasciatus Harris by having the anterior lobe of the pronotum shiny yellowish orange; the clavus and corium are almost entirely black to dark brown; and connexival segments II–V shiny yellow have a group of black spinules resembling an elongate spot. In A. nigrofasciatus the posterior lobe of the pronotum is shiny yellowish orange except for the black semilunar area medially on posterior margin, and the collar is shiny yellowish orange (eventually pale castaneous) ( Figs. 6–7 View FIGURES 1 – 10 ). In A. vergrandis sp. nov., the posterior lobe of the pronotum is shiny black to reddish brown with wide yellowish triangular mark lateral to midline, and the collar is shiny reddish brown to dark castaneous ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 1 – 10 ).
