Description. Holotype male. Dorsal coloration. Head shiny castaneous orange to golden orange with apex pale yellow; antennal segment I pale castaneous orange, segments II–IV dark castaneous brown; anterior lobe of pronotum including the collar and posterior lobe pale castaneous orange to golden orange except lateral edge and humeri black; scutellum pale castaneous orange to golden orange, and basally darker; anterior half of clavus pale castaneous orange to golden orange and posterior half black; corium black with basal third of costal margin golden orange; hemelytral membrane translucent, pale ambarine; connexivum pale yellow except the intersegmental joint pale orange; dorsal abdominal segments II–III pale castaneous brown, IV–VII pale yellowish orange. Ventral coloration. Head and rostral segments shiny yellow; prothorax shiny reddish brown with acetabulae shiny yellow; mesothorax shiny reddish brown; metathorax dull reddish brown; coxae and trochanters shiny yellow; femora shiny yellow with apical third pale castaneous orange; tibiae and tarsi dark castaneous orange; spinules of fore and middle femora and tibiae reddish brown; abdominal sternite II shiny yellow with reddish brown discoidal spot at inner third; abdominal sterna III–VII shiny yellow except the intersegmental joint pale orange; genital capsule pale castaneous orange suffused with pale brown. Structure. Head: Antennal segment II less than twice as long as segment I: rostrum stout, reaching anterior third of mesosternum. Thorax. Pronotum wider than long; anterior pronotal lobe less than twice as long as posterior lobe. Hemelytron macropterous, extending beyond the apex of last abdominal segment; veins of hemelytral membrane forming two cells. Paramere. Figs. 15–16 View FIGURES 11 – 22 .
Female. Color and habitus similar to male holotype. Connexival segments VIII–IX yellow to pale castaneous brown; dorsal abdominal segments II–V yellow and VI–IX pale castaneous brown; genital plates yellow suffused with pale castaneous orange.
Variation. 1, head dorsally pale orange with apical half pale yellow. 2, antennal segment I pale yellowish orange. 3, scutellum entirely pale castaneous orange. 4, clavus dark brownish orange.
Measurements. Male. Body length 4.49; head width across eyes 0.72; interocular distance 0.25; antennal segments: I 0.48, II 0.80, III 0.76, IV =ca. 0.96 (curled); pronotum: length of anterior pronotal lobe 0.64, length of posterior pronotal lobe 0.49,maximum width of anterior pronotal lobe 0.84, maximum width of posterior pronotal lobe 1.56; scutellum: length 0.64, width 0.76.
Measurements. Female. Body length 5.10; head width across eyes 0.76; interocular distance 0.28; antennal segments: I 0.44, II 0.83, III 0.72, IV =ca. 0.96 (curled); pronotum: length of anterior pronotal lobe 0.76, length of posterior pronotal lobe 0.56,maximum width of anterior pronotal lobe 0.88, maximum width of posterior pronotal lobe 1.68; scutellum: length 0.68, width 0.84.
Type material. HOLOTYPE male: MEXICO: VERACRUZ: San Andres Tuxtla, Estacion de Biologia “ Los Tuxtlas ”, on ground layer beneath Ficus insípida (Willd) , 27-XI-1999, L. Cervantes ( IEXA) . PARATYPES: MEXICO: VERACRUZ: San Andres Tuxtla, Estacion de Biologia “ Los Tuxtlas ”, on ground layer beneath Ficus insipida (Willd) , 27-28-XI-1999, L. Cervantes ( IEXA, UNAM), 3 males, 2 females . VERACRUZ: San Andres Tuxtla, Estacion de Biologia “ Los Tuxtlas ”, on ground layer beneath Ficus columbrinae Standley , 26-III-1999, L. Cervantes ( IEXA, UNAM), 1 male, 2 females . MEXICO: CHIAPAS: Ocosingo, Reserva Montes Azules, 28-V- 2000, L. Cervantes ( UNAM), 1 male .
Biology. It is associated with two species of Moraceae : Ficus columbrinae Standley and Ficus insipida (Willd) , and collecting on the ground under leaf litter.
Etymology. From the Latin “ aureous, aureus ”, meaning gold colored, in reference to the color of the species.
Discussion. This is an attractive species distinguished by having the anterior and posterior lobes of the pronotum, including the collar, pale castaneous orange to golden orange, with the lateral edges and posterior angles black; the prothorax shiny reddish orange with the acetabulae shiny yellow; the head dorsally shiny castaneous brown to golden orange with apical third pale yellow and ventrally shiny yellow. All previously known species have the head dorsally and ventrally shiny black to reddish brown; the prothorax shiny yellow; and pronotum with another condition ( Figs. 1–10 View FIGURES 1 – 10 ).
Distribution. Only known from Mexico.
