4. Adelobotrys fuscescens Triana (1871: 68) View in CoL .

Type:— “ Prope Tamana in locis umbrosis provin. Chocoensis Novae Granatae”, March 1853, J. J. Triana 3859 (lectotype NY-00221288!, designated here; isolectotypes BM-000544053!, BR-00000013206291 [digital image!], BR-00000013206277 [fragments]!, COL-000003144 [digital image!] [photograph US-00120329, digital image!], G-DC-00319567!, K-000329467!, P-00219220!, US-1803180 [digital image!]) .

In his description of A. fuscescens, Triana (1871) mentioned his own collection, Triana 3859, without indicating the herbarium where it was housed. There are several sheets deposited at BM, BR, COL, G-DC, K, NY, P and US. None bear the collection number 3859, but several have annotations made by Triana. The COL and P specimens bear the collector number 3856 and have annotations on collection locality, therefore the collector number 3859 cited by Triana is obviously erroneous and is to be corrected. The specimen proposed here as lectotype was selected because it is the only one which is annotated as Adelobotrys fuscescens in Triana’s own hand, it represents the best fit with the original description, presenting more intact leaves and flowers, and the collector and collection locality coincide with those in the protologue.
