Redescription (n=10). Body length 7.1–9.5 mm (M=8.0 mm), forebody length 3.0– 3.5 mm (M= 2.2 mm) ( Fig. 151 View FIGURES 151–159 ). Body black or dark brown, pronotum and elytra brown, abdominal tergites moderately iridescent; antennae reddish brown with base of first segment and segments 7–11 reddish yellow; legs and maxillary palpi reddish brown, tarsi reddish yellow.

Head suboval ( Fig. 152 View FIGURES 151–159 ), about as long as wide (L/W=0.93–1.07, M=0.98), slightly widened behind eyes, with two pairs of interocular setae. Temples about as long as eyes (LT/LE=0.89–1.17, M=1.02). Dorsal side of head shining, without micropunctures. Only sparse pale grey pubescence behind eyes. Four postocular setae visible on each side, additional seta on hind margin of eye absent. Mandibles each with one large tooth ( Fig. 153 View FIGURES 151–159 ). Maxillary palpi with terminal segment wide and quite long, pubescent, asymmetric, slightly wider and markedly longer than glabrous penultimate segment which is triangular ( Fig. 154 View FIGURES 151–159 ). First segment of antenna nearly as long as next four; segments 1 to 5 elongate, segment 5 slightly longer than wide (R=1.09–1.58, M=1.28), segment 6 about as long as wide, segments 7–9 transverse, segment 10 markedly transverse (R=0.66–0.88, M=0.74).

Pronotum ( Fig. 152 View FIGURES 151–159 ) markedly transverse (W/L=1.13–1.20, M=1.17), markedly widened behind with sides moderately rounded, widest in basal half, shining, without micropunctures. One pair of dorsal setae and one pair of lateral setae. Marginal setae short. Elytra markedly transverse (R=1.16–1.67, M=1.45) with short, pale, but not shining pubescence arising from dense aspirate punctures. Apical fringe of bristles slightly longer than pubescence on other parts of the elytra. Abdominal tergites with short, moderately dense pubescence, about as fine and slightly sparser than on elytra.

Meso- and metatarsi with short empodial setae, shorter than claws (similar as in Figs. 87, 88 View FIGURES 87–90 ).

Male (n=5). Sternite 9 very long and narrow ( Figs. 163 View FIGURES 160–165 ), tergite 10 markedly narrowed posteriorly with moderately long apical setae. ( Fig. 162 View FIGURES 160–165 ). Aedeagus ( Figs. 155–161 View FIGURES 151–159 View FIGURES 160–165 ) 0.94–1.08 mm long (M = 1.02 mm). Parameres bilobed, lobes markedly separated, sensory pegs confusedly arranged in posterior quarter ( Fig. 161 View FIGURES 160–165 ). Median lobe slightly overreaching paramere, apex widely rounded ( Figs. 157–159 View FIGURES 151–159 , 161 View FIGURES 160–165 ).

Female. Posterior margin of tergite slightly emarginate ( Fig. 164 View FIGURES 160–165 ), valves as in Fig. 165 View FIGURES 160–165 .

Differential diagnosis. Acylophorus sogai differs from the remaining species of A. salifi group mainly by the median lobe only slightly overreaching the paramere. The species differs from Madagascan species of the A. salifi group with similar body shape by larger body and longer fourth antennal segment.

Distribution. The species is distributed in East, Central and North Madagascar.

Bionomics. Acylophorus sogai was collected by sifting of forest litter and also by treading on banks of streams, ponds or lakes ( Fig. 168 View FIGURES 166–171. 166 ).

Discussion. The type locality “Mahanilazy” as published by Jarrige (1965) is written on paratypes label as Mananilazy.
