Actia vitripennis Rondani, 1856 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1856: 60.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ Saint-Sauveur ” [ France] ( Robineau-Desvoidy 1830: 86) [type locality for Actia pilipennis Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 ].
TYPE MATERIAL: see Remarks.
CURRENT STATUS: unjustified new replacement name for Actia lamia ( Meigen, 1838) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 329) ; junior synonym of Actia lamia ( Meigen, 1838) (see Remarks).
REMARKS: Rondani’s (1856: 60) key for the genus Actia Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 lists Actia vitripennis as its type species, but he did not provide a detailed description, type locality, number or sex of the specimens. Rondani (1859b: 19) moved the species Tachina pilipennis Fallén, 1810 to the genus Actia and proposed the replacement name Actia vitripennis for Actia pilipennis Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 although Robineau-Desvoidy (1851: 186) recognised Roeselia lamia Meigen, 1838 as a junior synonym of Actia pilipennis ( O’Hara et al. 1985: 93) . Rondani (1861e: 152) provided specific characters to separate Actia vitripennis Rondani from Actia lamia ( Meigen, 1838) . Schiner (1864: 88) and Bezzi & Stein (1907: 389) considered Actia vitripennis as a junior synonym of Actia frontalis ( Macquart, 1845) , O’Hara et al. (1985: 93) and Herting & Dely-Draskovits (1993: 329) considered it as an unjustified new name for Roeselia lamia , but Rondani himself (1861e:152) considered Actia vitripennis as a valid species, different from Actia pilipennis Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 . The type material for Actia vitripennis will be the same as for the name it was proposed to replace, i. e., Actia pilipennis . There is no type of this latter species in the MNHN where Robineau-Desvoidy’s collection is preserved (Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle 2020). Under the name Actia vitripennis there is a female (non-type) in the MZUF.
