TYPE MATERIAL. — Holotype MNHN 20350 and paratype MNHN 20351.
TYPE LOCALITY . — Vanuatu, 19°23’S, 169°35’E, 1040-1050 m [MUSORSTOM 8: stn DW 987 ] GoogleMaps .
MATERIAL EXAMINED. — Vanuatu. MUSORSTOM 8: stn DW 987 , 19°23’S, 169°35’E, 1040-1050 m, 2 dd, holotype and paratype GoogleMaps .
DISTRIBUTION. — Known only from Vanuatu (Fig. 61), in 1040-1050 m .
DESCRIPTION. — Shell morphology. Length 10 mm, width 5 mm (largest specimen examined). Shell solid, oval, with convex sides (Fig. 59G). Body whorl very large; spire short, conical, with 4 whorls. Suture deeply canaliculate. Protoconch eroded in all specimens examined. Umbilicus closed. Aperture very long, about 5/6 of the shell length, wider anteriorly and narrower posteriorly. Columellar margin slightly thickened, oblique, with no callus. No sculpture. Colour translucent whitish.
Anatomy. Unknown. All shells collected lacked soft parts.
REMARKS. — Acteocina lata differs from other Indo-Pacific species of the genus in its wide, oval shell with a short, conical spire.
ETYMOLOGY. — From the Latin lata (broad), in reference to the oval shape of this species.
