Arapatiella psilophylla (Harms) R. S. Cowan var. psilophylla View in CoL View at ENA . ( Figures 1 – 2 View FIGURE 1 View FIGURE 2 )
Trees 4 – 25 m tall, 12 – 40 (– 64) cm in diameter. Leaf rachis 1.4 – 19.6 cm long, glabrous to sparsely puberulent, indumentum golden to brown; petioles 0.8 – 8 cm long, glabrous to sparsely puberulent, often only at base, indumentum golden to brown; petiolules 1 – 6 mm long, glabrous to sparsely puberulent; proximal leaflets 3.8 – 20.4 × 2.1 – 7.5 cm, distal leaflets 4.5 – 27.3 × 2.5 – 9.5 cm, elliptic to oval to oblong, acuminate to cuspidate, sometimes acute; stipules 0.7 – 6 × 0.7 – 6.5 cm. Inflorescences 4 – 14 (– 20) cm long, densely flowered at the apex of fascicles, rachis densely strigulate, indumentum golden to brown, bracts 0.5 – 4.2 × 0.5 – 5.4 cm, bracteoles 2 – 3 × 2 – 3 mm. Flowers with buds up to 1.4 cm long; pedicels 2 – 10 (– 14) mm long; hypanthium 4 – 6 (–8) mm long; sepals light green to brown, free portion of outermost ones 4 – 10 × 4 – 8 mm, innermost ones 5 – 11 × 5 – 10 mm; petals 9 – 14 (– 16) × 5 – 9 mm, nail 4 – 6 mm long; filaments 14 – 19 mm long, anthers 3 – 4 mm long; ovary 4 – 6 × 1 – 2 mm, indumentum golden to coppery, style 13 – 20 mm long, stipe 4 – 6 mm long. Fruits 30 – 45 × 1.2 – 3 cm, indumentum golden to brown, densely strigose.
Diagnosis: —The variety A. psilophylla var. psilophylla can be distinguished from A. psilophylla var. emarginata by having flowers, inflorescences and stipules generally smaller; the shape of the leaflets very often elliptical, which is not present in the other variety; the apex of the leaflets almost always acuminate or cuspidate; inflorescence indumentum lighter, from gold to brown; rachis and petioles thinner; leaflets matte and coriaceous.
Distribution and habitat: —The distribution of A. psilophylla var. psilophylla is much wider than that of A. psilophylla var. emarginata , occurring along almost the entire coast of Bahia, being Conde the northernmost locality of occurrence among the specimens. ( Figure 4 View FIGURE 4 ).
Phenology: —The flowering period can occur from March to October, being more predominant between May and September. There is a single report of blooming for January, corresponding to the collection Santos, T. S. 1386. We observed that there are reports for fruits for all months of the year.
