This specific name wasproposed for Orson Bennett Johnson [1849-1917], a pioneer Pacific Northwest entomologist and first professor of natural science at the University of Washington.  Scaphinotus klahowyaePerrault, 1973b: 47. Type locality: "Klahowya, near Sappho, Clallam Co[unty], Olympic Peninsula, Washington" (original citation). Holotype (♂) location unknown (probably in MHNP). Synonymy established by Greene (1976: 326).</spm:hasContent>
