Phylogenetic studies (Wijesekara 1997; Heraty et al. 2013; Cruaud et al. 2016) mostly support a sister group relationship between the tribe Phasgonophorini, which includes the genus  Trigonura, and the Brachymeriini, whereas the Chalcidini merge on a separate node. Hence, it seems preferable to include  Brachymeriaand  Trigonura, comprising the two tribes quoted above, in the subfamily Brachymeriinae.
