Because of its large size and robust shape, this species is one of the most conspicuous carabid elements of the grassland regions of North America. It belongs to a genus which is endemic to North and Middle America. Although not firmly established, the sister taxon to  Pasimachuscould be  Mouhotia, a genus of massive and handsome species endemic to southeast Asia.</spm:hasContent>
