This small species is a characteristic element of the fauna that lives under the bark of dead deciduous trees. Despite its size, it is easily recognized in the field by its conspicuous yellow apical third of the elytra. Thomas Say, the first entomologist born on this continent worthy of the name, was struck by the coloration and for that reason proposed the name flavicauda, derived from the Latin flavus(yellow) and cauda(tail), for the species.</spm:hasContent>
