It is larger than U. a nis a nis(Frauenfeld) and is known from the eastern Mediterranean area. White and Korneyev (1989)treated this taxon as a subspecies, pending biological evidence that it was either distinct, or simply a geographic variant (with a diOEerent host), of U. a nis.
