Genus Stebbingiella View in CoL gen. nov.
Etymology. Genus name is given in honor of Revd Thomas R. R. Stebbing, important systematist, responsible for several studies on the natural history of Amphipoda during the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century, including the establishment of the family Melphidippidae . Gender feminine.
Diagnosis. Lateral cephalic lobe subacute, with globular eyes extremely produced, reaching beyond the second article of antenna 2 peduncle. Antenna 1 accessory flagellum 7-articulate. Maxilla 1, outer plate with 6 apical stout setae. Coxae not contiguous, coxae 3–4 with strong acute to subacute anterior projection, coxae 5–7 with strong acute to subacute posterior projection. Gnathopods robust, strongly subchelate, sexually dimorphic. Pereopods 3–4, dactyli elongate. Pleonites dorsally smooth. Urosomites 1–2 dorsally bicarinate. Uropods 1–2, rami subequal in length. Uropod 3 highly extended, peduncle slightly elongate, rami elongate subequal in length, apically truncate, outer ramus 2-articulate. Telson cleft, not fully movable with two globular lobes, about 2X wider than long.
Type species. Stebbingiella globulosa sp. nov., by monotypy.
