Typification of Hieracium rotundatum View in CoL
In 1802 P. Kitaibel, accompanied by F.A. Waldstein & J. Schütz, visited Croatia and collected a considerable amount of herbarium material ( Gombocz 1945). It is probable that the plants subsequently described as H. rotundatum were collected during this trip ( Schultes 1814). In the Herbarium Kitaibelianum stored at BP, there is a specimen (Herb. Kit. fasc. XXVI no. 335) labelled ‘ Hieracium obtusatum vel rotundatum mihi. Ex horto, in que[m] e Croatia illatum’ ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ). This specimen consists of two individuals pressed from the garden-cultivated plants. The comparison of these plants with the protologue of H. rotundatum indicates that they were used as the basis of the species description ( Schultes 1814: 439). This specimen is the holotype of the name H. rotundatum .
