Morphology

Length of body 12.0– 13.5 mm, of fore wing 10.5–11.5 mm and of ovipositor 8.4– 11.5 mm. Antenna with 100–104 flagellomeres. Raised median area of first tergite not conspicuously depressed medially. Fore wing vein cu-a usually postfurcal by approximately the width of one vein, but virtually interstitial in the specimen from Myanmar. Second submarginal cell robust, vein 2-M 3.0 times length of 2-SR. Hind wing vein 2-SC+R interstitial to distinctly transverse. Base of hind wing largely setose, narrowly glabrous just distal to the posterior half of vein cu-a.

Colouration

Body and legs entirely orange yellow to yellow except for middle of frons, stemmaticum and vertex reaching eyes which are black. Antennae entirely black. Wings yellow with midgrey apical border and fore wing with black spot at apex of pterostigma and at parastigma.

Etymology

Named after Professor Dr Supot Hannongbua, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University, in recognition of his assistance.

Notes

The only character we can find to distinguish this species from I. xanthoflagellaris sp. nov. is the colouration of the antennae. No intermediate forms have been seen so we therefore believe these to represent a pair of closely related but distinct species.
